First Annual DCTE Open House

DCTE hosted our first Open House and Welcome Back event for new, current, and prospective teacher candidates on September 17 from 3:00-6:00 pm in our 200 Academy Street conference room, with the goals of welcoming students back to campus and giving them an opportunity to get to know the people and resources who will help them throughout their time as a teacher candidate.

Our inaugural event featured treats, information about the DCTE departments, and activities. Jamie Bailey organized a game with a raffle prize of gift certificates to Honeygrow on Main Street. Students asked about clearances, certification, and careers in education.

The Secondary Educators of Tomorrow (SET) student group also hosted a table to greet students, and attendees were invited to sign up for two Do2Learn Makerspace programs in sewing and robotics.

Despite the rain, a number of students came out to learn about all that DCTE has to offer. There were several of first-year students and even a few undeclared students who are planning to change to teacher prep majors!  We look forward to including more departments and student groups when we host this event next year.

Draft 2018 DDOE Scorecards Issued

The Delaware Department of Education issued the draft versions of the 2018 Educator Preparation Program Reports, also known as the “scorecards,” for a 30-day review period ending October 17.  The scorecards rate educator preparation programs in six domains:  Recruitment, Candidate Performance, Placement, Retention, Graduate Performance, and Perceptions.  Ratings for each domain are determined by two to four metrics.

Scorecards are issued biennially, and each program will earn a program renewal status based on their data in accordance with Regulation 290.  Once verified, the scorecards will be published on the DDOE website in a similar manner to the 2016 scorecards:

Please contact your program coordinator or DCTE Interim Director Christine Carrino Gorowara ( if you have questions about the scorecards or would like to view the draft scorecard for your program.
