Marilyn Cochran-Smith Visits on November 16

DCTE and the School of Education are pleased to host Marilyn Cochran-Smith, Cawthorne Professor of Teacher Education for Urban Schools in the Lynch School of Education at Boston College, for several events on November 16 from 1:00-5:00. The following schedule provides several opportunities for participants to engage in a conversation with Dr. Cochran-Smith about teacher preparation. All events will take place in the Ewing Room at the Perkins Student Center.
  • 1:00 – Teacher Preparation for Equity/Diversity: Challenges and Opportunities colloquium
  • 2:00 – Professional dialogue
  • 3:15 – Remarks on the Current State of Teacher Education with questions from the audience
  • 4:15 – Reception

UD Educational Technology Conference

The Office of Educational Technology, the Education Resource Center, and The College School will host the fourth University of Delaware Educational Technology Conference (UDETC) for PreK-20 educators Saturday, March 4, 2017. The keynote for the day is Leslie Fisher who is the director of Fisher Technologies and a nationally-known expert in the educational technology field.

Learning Policy Institute Reports

The Learning Policy Institute recently released a set of reports that analyzes data on teacher supply, demand, and shortages and suggests recommendations on teacher recruitment and retention for policymakers. Their interactive webpage about teacher shortages allows individuals to review key factors that reflect and influence teacher supply and attrition for each state. Delaware received a “Teacher Attractiveness Rating” of 2.73 out of 5 (on a 1-5 scale with 5 being the most desirable rating) and a “Teacher Equity Rating” of 3 out of 5 based on these key factors.
